House of Somms explores exceptional terroirs through the lens of French wine philosophy — a journey that begins in South Africa.
DISCOVER OUR PHILOSOPHY"Always listening, keen observers, harmonious. Creating our brand is our way of expressing our emotions, our authentic sensations, and our expertise in our wines."
House of Somms was founded on a simple question: what happens when the people who spend their careers around wine start making it?
Jean-Michel Thomas — ex 3 Michelin Star Sommelier — questions his traditional role and invites us to rethink what it means to be a sommelier/winemaker today.
House of Somms was born from a simple belief: great wines are defined by place, not prestige.
We bring a French, terroir-first approach to the search for exceptional vineyards — looking beyond established names and appellations to understand what makes a place truly distinctive.
Today, that journey begins in South Africa.
Rather than being bound to a single estate, we collaborate with exceptional growers who share our respect for place, patience and craftsmanship.
Small-production wines crafted in partnership with exceptional growers, each selected because a particular vineyard reveals the purest expression of its variety.
EXPLORE →Wine becomes more meaningful when you understand the people, the place and the philosophy behind every bottle.

JOIN →A circle of curious wine experts, sommeliers and producers connected by a shared appreciation for exceptional terroir.
BELONG →Our grapes come from the cool climate of the Elgin Appellation.
Elgin wine region is surrounded by 3,000 ha of the UNESCO-certified Kogelberg Biosphere, which contains 1,600 plant species, making it the most florally diverse region of the planet. Per unit area, it provides a "complex" environment for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay to thrive, with sandstone, shell and quartz offering a trilogy of fascinating soils.
It delivers exceptional quality fruit with depth and texture.
Hand harvested. Fermentations are carried out using indigenous yeasts over several weeks, ageing is then carried out in French oak barrels for over a year with only one racking before bottling.
The cool maritime climate and elevated vineyards of Elgin produce a Chardonnay of precision, freshness and quiet elegance.
A refined Pinot Noir shaped by cool nights and slow ripening, revealing purity, energy and remarkable finesse.
